Introduction to the Trail
The Pioneer Footpath links the coastal communities of the southern Labrador coast. Along Highway Route 510 (Labrador Coastal Drive) look for signs marking trail heads — access points to the trail.
The degree of difficulty for hikers ranges from easy to moderately challenging in places. Near communities the trail is generally well-developed.
More remote sections are less developed, though many difficult sections have been improved in recent years. Work continues each year to improve and maintain the trail.
Along the route you will find trail markers, small footprint signs to guide you on the way. Please watch for the markers and stay on the trail.
Our towns provides accommodations, restaurants and various retail shopping services. Between the towns the coastline is little-travelled and offers a pristine natural environment.
The trail is presented here in three sections, beginning at the Quebec-Labrador border and travelling eastward along the coast (left to right on the trail map).
