Cultivating Green Spaces in Labrador Straits

The Regional Community Garden, nestled along Route 510, lies just 3 kilometers south of L'Anse au Loup. This vibrant garden emerged from the remnants of the "old community garden," thanks to the diligent efforts of the SLDA (Southern Labrador Development Association). With the wholehearted approval and support of the L'Anse au Loup Town Council, this green area has been transformed into a hub for local gardeners.

Key Features:

  • 42 garden plots and 20 raised garden boxes now grace the landscape, providing fertile ground for cultivating fresh produce.
  • The garden's revival is a testament to the potential for self-sufficiency in terms of food supply.
  • Once obscured by grass and alders, the site has developed into an accessible garden, beckoning both seasoned and novice gardeners.

Access and Membership:

  • The facility warmly welcomes Labrador Straits residents who hold an SLDA membership.
  • Individual membership costs a modest $10 per year.
  • Each member is entitled to either one plot or one raised garden box and any other SLDA member benefits.

Plot Retention and Availability:

  • Existing gardeners must renew their membership by paying the fee before each planting season to retain their plots.
  • Any unclaimed plots or garden boxes by June 15th become available to members on a first-come, first-served basis at a rate of $10 per year per box/plot. For inquiries or suggestions, contact the SLDA office at 709-931-2010.
