🎶Labrador Straits Age-Friendly Community Committee presents 'Christmas Carol Sing-Along'!🎄 This event took place from 2:00-4:00pm on Tuesday, December 17th, and was located at the Town Centre in West St Modeste. Music was by the Labrador Straits Ministerial, and refreshments was served. Town of L'Anse au Loup Annual Tree Lighting & Ornament Craft Night- December 2, 2024

The Town of L'Anse au Loup Annual Tree Lighting & Ornament Craft Night took place at 6:30pm, on December 2, 2024, at the Lawrence D. O’Brien Town Centre, in L’Anse au Loup. This event consisted of the annual tree lighting, followed by an event where we made ornaments, decorated sugar cookies, had hot chocolate and cupcakes! This event was in partnership with the Town of L’Anse au Loup, Southern Labrador/Strait of Belle Isle Community Youth Network (CYN), and Association for New Canadians (ANC).

There was a free bus ride to beautiful Salmon Bay Farm, where individuals enjoyed a lunch, the scenery along the way and the magic of October at Salmon Bay Farm & Pumpkin Patch Cafe! This event was made available by SLDA Seniors Services Office and SLDA's Labrador Straits 'Age-Friendly Community'.

Hikers exploring sections of the Labrador Pioneer Footpath with our guided tours. Our first hike took place on September 14, 2024. *This event is coordinated through SLDA's Volunteer Age-Friendly Committee, Seniors Services Office and our Welcoming Communities Initiative, and is made possible by Active NL funding through Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Regional 'Sunday Community Brunch'!☀️☕ This brunch took place on Sunday, September 15, from 11:30am-12:30pm at the AGM Town Centre in L'Anse au Clair. Everyone was invited to this event, aimed at fostering community connections. This event was organized by SLDA's Welcoming Communities Initiative, Employment Connections & Development Office and Seniors Services Office, in partnership with the Association for New Canadians - Forteau

Bike Rodeo- August 4th, 2024

The Summer Recreation Program, at the Labrador Straits Regional Arena, hosted a 'Bike Rodeo' on Sunday, August 4th, 2024. This was a Friends and Family event, and was open to everyone. There was bike/helmet safety tips, bike decorating, an obstacle course with checkpoints, prizes & BBQ Hotdogs!

Tourism Information Officers- July & August 2024

Introducing Emma Suley & Logan Ryland, as SLDA’s new Tourism Information Officers. They are connecting and sharing about the Labrador Straits region with travelers on the Strait of Belle Isle Ferry, through an exciting 8-week summer job. They will be on some ferry crossings to greet and welcome locals, travelers, tourists and visitors. Promoting and sharing information, highlights, and attractions of the Labrador Straits Area. The ‘Tourism Information Officer’ Project is made possible through SLDA’s Welcoming Communities Strategy project, and in partnership with: International Grenfell Association (IGA) Labrador Marine Inc. (LMI)

Lunch n' Learn: Workshop for Seniors- July 12th,13th,18th, 2024

SLDA's Employment Connections & Development Office & SLDA Seniors Services Office hosted a 'Lunch n' Learn: Workshop for Seniors'. We invited all Seniors & 50+ Clubs in the area to attend. The Lunch n' Learn consisted of a session on 'Protecting Yourself Online', as well as an 'Email Creation Workshop. We helped individuals create an email address, so that they were able to create a MyGovNL account to access government services & health records. We hosted the Lunch n' Learns at 3 different locations: -Forteau Fire Brigade- Wednesday, June 12th from 11:00am-1:00pm -Paula’s Place (L’Anse Au Loup)- Thursday, June 13th from 11:00am-1:00pm -Red Bay Town Hall- Tuesday, June 18th from 11:00am-1:00pm

This event consisted of information, demonstrations & activities, which showcased some local talent & services in the area. This event was interactive, and informative. There was no selling of any kind; Individuals/organizations could provide demonstrations, services & information at their table, informing the public of their services.
